Shepaug Students Are Going to NYC

Submitting a film to the world's largest high school film fest is one thing, having that film be selected and being invited to attend is another.

This year, Shepaug Video Club has produced another great film, "Alone", that was selected to play in Times Square at the All American High School Film Fest. Their film was selected along with many others from over 2000 submissions from 50 states and 40+ countries. This list of selections was broadcasted live on Facebook and Instagram on Monday, July 16th, 2018.

"Alone" can be viewed here:

As an Official Selection, they are in contention to win an award. Award finalists and winners will be announced live at the Teen Indie Awards Show on Sunday, October 7th. The festival is giving away over $400,000 in scholarships and prizes!

"We had previously made 'Alone' for a different film festival," Director Henry James states, "But because there was a time limit to that project, we wanted to re-work the film by extending it for the All American Film Fest."

"Alone" previously won 'Best Screenplay' at the Connecticut Student Film Fest. Alone is set in a dystopian time, when the melting permafrost releases a deadly worldwide virus that kills millions of people. In the short film, a young girl, who courageously quarantined herself as not to get sick, must overcome the feeling of being alone.

"This is beyond exciting!" Breanne Pitt said, the mentor to the team of student filmmakers.

The All American is a highly competitive film fest with celebrity judges and 3 days of festivities, planned for the first weekend in October.

The students are currently raising money to attend in October. This is presenting a challenge because ticket prices, lodging for 3 nights, transportation costs, food and other accommodation expenses add up fast! The team still needs to raise money, and are planning to do more fundraisers at the beginning of the school year. They will always take donations.
